  كان التابعي الجليل محمد بن سيرين إذا كلم أمه كأنه يتضرع .. قال ابن عوف: دخل رجل على محمد بن سيرين وهو عند أمه، فقال: ما شأن محمد أيشتكي شيئًا؟ قالوا: لا، ولكن هكذا يكون إذا كان عند أمه. وقال محمد بن المنكدر: بات أخي عمر يصلي، وبِتُّ أغمز رجلَ أمي، وما أحبّ أن ليلتي بليلَته. وهذا محمد بن بشار المشهور بِبُنْدَار الإمام الحافظ راوية الإسلام جمع حديث البصرة كان يقول: أردت الخروج ـ يعني: الرحلة لطلب العلم ـ فمنعتني أمي، فأطعتها فبورك لي فيه. وكان طلق بن حبيب لا يمشي فوق ظهر بيت وأمه تحته إجلالًا لها وتوقيرًا. وقال عامر بن عبد الله بن الزبير: لما مات أبي عبد الله ما سألت الله حولا كاملا إلا العفو عنه. وهذا ابن عون نادته أمه فأجابها فَعَلا صوته صوتَها فأعتق رقبتين يرى أنهما كفارة لما فعل. وبكى إياس بن معاوية حين ماتت أمه بكاءً شديدًا، فقيل له في ذلك فقال: كان لي بابان مفتوحان إلى الجنة فأغلق أحدهما. وهذا الإمام أبو حنيفة كانت تأمره أمه أن يذهب بها إلى حلقة عمر بن ذر حتى تسأله عما أشكل عليها، رغم أن ابنها كان فقيه زمانه، فكان يذهب بها رحمه الله.
